About Steve O.

On Staff Since

2021

Sport

Steve was an all-around athlete, playing both baseball and basketball in high school, and football in high school and college!

Role

Steve transitioned from a very well-respected coach in Plattsmouth schools to serve coaches across the rural Omaha area (and may sneak into Iowa on occasion, too!). In summer 2024, Steve was promoted to Campus Area Director, serving our Area Reps who serve on campuses!

All about Steve

Steve and his amazing wife, Bobbie, have been married more than 34 years! They have one daughter who is a Special Education elementary teacher and is married to a pretty special man. Get to know more about Steve!

Fast Five:

  1. Coffee or tea? Tea
  2. It's dinner: Italian or Chinese? Chinese
  3. Football or Baseball? Yes
  4. Phone call or text? Text, but not opposed to email
  5. Huskers or Huskers? 😉  Huskers (or AFC Falcons)

Favorites:

  1. Dessert? Chocolate. Or Hannah's pies.
  2. Sports team? Kansas City Royals--my time working working with the players and coaches drew me into being a big fan.* Cincinnati Reds/LA Rams**--I just grew up watching these teams.
  3. Holiday? Christmas. I love seeing the joy in receiving and giving gifts as we think about the greatest gift of all in the Lord Jesus.
  4. Song? "Rescue" by Lauren Daigle with a close second by "Motions" by Matthew West.
  5. Book? "In a Pit With a Lion On a Snowy Day" by Mark Batterson.

FCA:

  1. Why did you join FCA? Started with FCA in College and fell in love with what was going on and the relationships that were built. I've stayed involved with Huddles ever since as a coach; I love the camps, love sharing the Gospel and God's word. When the opportunity came to join FCA full-time, it seemed the next step to take. I really felt the Lord calling me to this path.
  2. What is your favorite FCA memory? FCA sports camp in Pella, Iowa. Each year the bonds with coaches and returning athletes grew into some of my closest friendships. That common bond in Christ is forever!
  3. What is your passion within FCA? Sharing the Gospel with coaches and athletes and really seeing the Coaches grow in their relationships with the Lord and with each other, then the impact that has on student-athletes and other staff.

More:

  1. What did you want to be when you grew up? A pro football or baseball player, then a coach , then preaching and motivating others.
  2. If the Lord gave you a new calling outside of FCA, what do you think it would be? Being an itinerant preacher or a motivational speaker.
  3. What is your favorite Scripture? That's hard***. Philippians 2:1-11.

*Mikal (the web content person) is okay with this answer since she is the most unAmerican Canadian-born American ever and doesn't like baseball.
**Now this is an abomination. #GoHawks
***It is Mikal's goal in life to make these guys sweat. This question seems to really do the trick.
